Grand Island Industrial Park Expansion Draws New Investment
A second phase of development at the city's industrial park has attracted new manufacturing and logistics tenants.
A second phase of development at Grand Island's industrial park is nearing completion, with city officials confirming that several new manufacturing and logistics tenants have signed leases ahead of the expansion's official opening.
The project adds roughly 200 acres of shovel-ready industrial land, part of a broader strategy by regional economic development officials to position Grand Island as a logistics hub between Omaha and points west along Interstate 80. Rail access and proximity to major highway infrastructure have been the primary draw for incoming tenants, several of whom cited shipping costs as a bigger factor than local incentives.
City officials say the expansion is expected to create several hundred jobs once fully leased, though they caution that filling those positions will require continued investment in workforce training given the tight regional labor market.
The project's first phase, completed several years ago, is already fully leased, which local officials point to as evidence that demand for industrial space in Central Nebraska remains strong despite broader economic uncertainty.
